I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a real passion for working with real people, young and adult, from all walks of life. I specialize in working with preschoolers, and I am trained and experienced in sandtray, psychodynamic talk therapy, and EMDR, best known as a powerful tool for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in children and adults, but also great with addiction, phobias, anxiety, and depression. I have a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from Dominican University of California and a PhD in English from Cornell University. También hablo español.
Unlike adults, when kids come to therapy they don't sit down and talk about their problems. Instead, the child expresses herself through play. I have helped children work through all sorts of challenges, including toileting, tantruming, adjusting to divorce or separation, even trauma and attachment disorders. Plus: kids love EMDR, and I am one of the few clinicians with experience in modifying EMDR for children.
EMDR is the leading-edge treatment for trauma, whether it's a car accident that happened a week ago, or chronic abuse that took place in childhood. I have been fully trained in Attachment-Focused EMDR, a type of EMDR that goes deep and helps rebuild your fundamental ability to feel trust, love, and happiness in relationships.
I am pending certification by the EMDR International Association.
When I work with couples and families, I don't see them as a collection of separate individuals; I see them as a system. No one person is "at fault." Rather, the problem lies in the pattern of behaviors that make a couple or a family function -- or not. Couples and families can change these painful patterns and restore the strength, flexibility, and joy that lie at the heart of every familial bond.
My regular fee is $175 per 50-minute session. Longer sessions may be advisable for EMDR, in which case we will discuss your fee in advance.
I have a limited number of openings in my practice for people who wish to use Medi-Cal or Beacon to cover their therapy, or who need a sliding scale.
My San Francisco location is located in the Lower Nob Hill neighborhood, close to St. Francis Memorial. My Marin office is near downtown Tiburon, a lovely 15-minute drive from the Golden Gate Bridge. Both my offices are accessible to people with disabilities.
